On the 8th of December, GCS made an amazing and strong finish to the swimming season with another first place victory against the rest of the DASSA competition.
With a full squad and amazing technique, the swimmers pushed themselves to the finish line against the tough competition of Horizon International School and Collegiate American School. The relays were exciting and tense events, with each team trying their hardest resulting in a close finish. The hard work and training put in by the students, coaches and teachers could be seen in their beautiful technique and determination. A big thank you to the assistance of the PE staff and students at GCS for helping the gala to run quickly and smoothly so everyone could get home early by having both the girls and boys racing at the same time to half the time needed. Also a big thank you to all the students who participated and made this an amazing gala. A final congratulations to the GCS MYP swimming squad for their fourth win (out of four) in the DASSA competition. Writer: Katelyn Shannon 11B Photographer: Wendy Langlois

The PYP swimming team had an amazing event in the second competition on the 10th November where they participated in the DAPSA Top 4 Gala placing an overall 5th.
The excellent effort of the students could be seen in their beautiful and developing technique that showed their gracefulness in the water. The older student put in an exceptional effort and won a majority of their races against the tough competition of 5 other schools. The gala was a great success thanks to the assistance of the GCS staff and students who helped facilitate the carnival, to the students who listened to the teachers and older students, to the coaches for encouraging the children and to the parents for the overwhelming support that they showed for their school and children. The swimmers had beautiful, smooth transitions in the relays and powerful tumble turns in their races. They overcame the high, unstable blocks and extremely shallow ends with amazing skill, bravery and perseverance. The younger students performed exceptionally well against the other students with a small amount of experience with MYP swimming gala's. The older students fought with all their might against the tough competitions and made GCS proud. Thank you to the other teams for the great competition, to the teachers and coaches for looking after the children and pushing them to be their best and to the students who participated for their exceptional performances.
