On November 1st the GCS Aquathon team participated in an Aquathon competition at the Rashid School for Boys! When we arrived at the school I was rather nervous as well as all of us I believe. As we were preparing our equipment we saw a bunch of very athletic schools walk in through the gate which really intimidated me. I saw some of my competitors which really gave me butterflies in my stomach. There were three age groups that raced in our school; the grade 6’s, Grade 7’s and grade 9’s. We had to complete the swim in the swimming pool and the run was a round a large field. We all found the track very confusing at first and it took us quite a while to finally understand, the toughest part on the course was running on the grass. It really slows you down! When I came to finish my race I was wrecked and I felt as if were going to collapse but I finished! I was enlightened to finish the race and everyone on the team I believe did excellent and we all went home proud. All of us will continue training for our next race in January where we are going to come home as winners!

The Under 11 boys had to wait to start their match versus CAS but the wait did not affect their performance.
The focus was to keep the ball on the ground and pass and move to pull CAS around the pitch and win the ball back if we lost it anywhere on the pitch. Marc and Antonios did this very well and with Gianluca making some very effective runs into the box CAS were struggling to cope with the GCS pressure. Adam, Owen and Eric were working well together in defense and looked solid with Eric making some very quick and fluid breaks up the pitch to release the midfield and striker. Rayan had very little to do in the first half as a result of this solid defense. The first goal was a fantastic team effort with defense and midfield involved and a calm finish from Antonio's to calm the nerves of the boys after sustained pressure on the CAS goal. With the deadlock broken GCS controlled the game well with good passing and a drive to win the ball back. So when Yusuf and Yasin came onto the pitch along with Pranav the team was already working very well. The game finished as a 3-0 win for GCS and thoroughly deserved by the boys with Eric getting on the score sheet too. Well played boys and it is great to see team playing well even when the squad is rotated to ensure game time for all the players. Coach Callum Final Score: RWA 2 – GCS 1
Last night (2/11/16) our Under 19 boys football team played an away game against Raffles World Academy. The opposition managed to score both of their goals during the first half. This however did not dishearten our team. They showed great sportsmanship and kept fighting and defending as best as they could. Our first goal was scored in the second half by Kaan Pelin (Grade 11) which brought a lot of motivation and momentum back into our boys and the match. They kept pushing through and supported each other to turn the game around but unfortunately did not come out on the winning end. Better luck next time boys. Keep up the hard work!! Final Game Score: GCS 27 - DBS 6
On the 19th October 2016, the Greenfield Griffins’ Under 16’s Basketball Team won their home match against Dubai British School (DBS). Throughout the game the boys played very hard and managed to beat the other team with a score of 27-6. Philip scored the most baskets for our team with a total of 11 baskets, some of which were free throws. Emile, who was man of the match (seen with the ball on the image) was awarded this title due to his effort and commitment which was seen throughout the whole game. Overall, there was great effort from both teams and we are very proud of the win. Well done boys! Keep it up! Today the greenfield griffins under 14 football team won against Jumeriah English Speaking School. The final score was 6-0 meaning the team put up a great fight and came up on top gaining a massive lead. The team showed some great defense keeping the ball on the scoring side of the field and if the other team got possession the attachers would swoop right in and save the ball. The first goal was scored by Charlie before during the first half (20 mins). Malik also managed to shoot two goals amplifying the lead along with Ahmad who also score twice in the game and Auobe who score one during the game. The boys put up a great fight and didn’t give up when it got tough. Good work guys! keep up the good work!

Our Under 19 Boys Football Team played a tremendous match last night against Bradenton Prep Academy. The opposing team put up a great fight but in the end, our boys dominated with a final score of 3 – 0. Kaan Pelin (Gr.11) scored all three of the goals; one in the first half of the game and two in the second half. Brandenton had strong offence but our goalie, Rehaan Ahuja (Gr.11) kept a clean sheet throughout the entire game. In the end, the man of the match was awarded to Sam Shadbolt (Gr.11) for his outstanding performance in defence (right back) and his consistent motivation that kept the team going. Well done boys, keep up the good work! Match Report: DIA 6 - GCS 2
The Greenfield Griffins were beaten by DIA Wolves 6 -2 last night in a hard fought game. The boys put in a tremendous amount of effort but they were overpowered by DIA due to their strong offence. Kaan Pelin (Gr.11) scored a goal in the first half of the game, whilst DIA scored 2, this however did not lessen the motivation of our boys. In the second half of the game, Steffan Gutermann (Gr.12) scored the second goal in a free kick, however DIA dominated the second half. At the end of the game, Steffan Gutermann, Team Captain was awarded man of the match for his brilliant contribution to the team. He kept the team motivated and didn’t give up on them! Keep working hard boys!! |
